Dominguez

Robert Dominguez started taking art classes in the Older Adult program at Ventura Adult School despite being legally blind. Robert is blind in one eye, a diabetic, on dialysis and gets to class by bus. He still has the energy and good humor to help others and share with his fellow classmates.
Robert was a technical illustrator before he retired for health reasons. Bob uses dramatic effects to create intriguing images. He turns simple backgrounds into fairylands of shape with fantastic colors. His visual work is a delight, as is his personality.

Robert has a goal to improve painting and drawing skills. He has studied about six months with Judy Klement. Robert says, “Judy uses humor when critiquing my work. She always tells me the why and how to correct or change something. She makes color mixing simpler and helps me focus on light and dark for drama and to pick out shapes. This is important to me as l am blind in one eye.”

Robert has plans for the future, which include continuing adult education in art and taking college classes in Computer Graphics. He also teaches art to seniors at the Camarillo Senior Center. He says he sees so many people who have given up on themselves and he wants to use art to help them and encourage them to keep going.
