Carol Briggs

Burbank Adult School

Carol Briggs started taking classes in the parent education program at Burbank Adult School when her first child was an infant. She has grown with each of her four children and has become a better parent. As she graduated from the program with each child, she has continued enrollment with her next child. Carol has significant life responsibilities related to family and community. She has a supportive husband but he does travel with his job occasionally and that leaves Carol with the full load of four children plus all of the school obligations and community obligations.

Carol became involved in the Parent Council Group and has held various offices on the board of the Burbank Parent Education Council group. She began as a class representative and later ran for office. Carol has served in numerous positions: as treasurer for three years, as vice president in charge of fund raising for two years and is currently in her second year as president. She has attended the program for nine years and has been on the Board as an officer for seven years. Her positions on the board have prepared her for further work in the community.

Carol is very active in her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaching religion classes for adult women on a monthly basis.

Carol also works with several youth groups. She works with girls aged 8-12 for the Activity Days Program and has done so for 4 1/2 years. In Cub Scouts, she assists in arranging activities for the local Cub Scout pack. She organized a tour at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories in July of 2004. She also assists in purchasing awards for the pack on a monthly basis.

Carol has also been the treasurer for Girl Scout Troop 200 for 2 1/2 years and has been the cookie sales chairperson for 2 years.

Carol has been very active in the PTA at Joaquin Miller Elementary School. She is currently vice president in charge of fund raising and has added several innovative sales opportunities involving healthy snacks for the children. She has also been treasurer of the PTA for two years. She has also been a member of the School Site Committee for five years.

Carol’s involvement in the Parent Education Program for the last nine years has contributed to her knowledge as a parent. Also, with her involvement in our program and the Parent Council, Carol has developed leadership skills that will be with her through life.

Carol plans on continuing her school and community involvement through every level of her children’s school years. She plans on continuing her role as a stay-at-home mom whole maintaining her contributions to our community.
