Carine Gabriel’s story is a powerful example of how determination, education, and a commitment to helping others can transform lives. Born in Port-Salut, Haiti, into a family that valued learning and service, Carine was inspired from an early age by her parents. Her father served as a school director, and her mother worked as a teacher, instilling in her the importance of education, discipline, and personal growth.

Carine completed her elementary and high school education at a school run by nuns before earning a diploma from Christ the King Secretarial School in Port-au-Prince. Although she excelled academically, she knew that expanding her opportunities would require strengthening her English skills. With a strong desire to continue learning and grow professionally, she moved to Petaluma, California, in November 2023, determined to build a brighter future.

Despite English not being her first language, Carine never allowed challenges to define her journey. Through hard work, resilience, and extra tutoring, she strengthened her language skills while preparing for the HiSET exam. With support from Jennifer Valerius, HSE Coordinator at Petaluma Adult School, she successfully achieved this important milestone.

At the same time, Carine balanced her studies with her passion for health, fitness, and community engagement. She became a certified Zumba instructor and actively taught classes while pursuing her educational goals, inspiring others to embrace wellness, confidence, and an active lifestyle. Through the guidance of Catherine Crotty, English Language and Family Resource Coordinator at Petaluma Adult School, Carine was connected with Sonoma Family Meal's Culinary Job Training Program. Her dedication and leadership quickly stood out. After completing the program, she was hired and later became a student mentor, helping others navigate their own paths to success.

Carine's accomplishments continued when she earned a scholarship to CalRegional and graduated as a Certified Medical Assistant in May 2025. Today, she remains committed to lifelong learning, community service, and creating opportunities for others. She believes deeply in helping people from all backgrounds thrive and succeed. Her journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, education, and service, proving that when passion meets purpose, remarkable things can happen.
