Pearl Wong
Rowland Adult and Community Education
Nominated in 2025
Pearl Wong’s journey demonstrates the power of adult education in achieving lifelong goals. After decades of working in retail and prioritizing her family, Pearl never lost the desire to complete her education. Struggling with reading comprehension made academic progress difficult, but a conversation with her niece about another adult learner’s success reignited her determination. That night, she decided to return to school for personal growth.
In 2021, Pearl enrolled at Rowland Adult Community Education (RACE). Initially expecting an easy experience, she soon realized that subjects like reading, math, and history required significant effort. Equipped with her notebooks and determination, she embraced the challenge, proving that age is never a barrier to learning. Through adult education, she gained both knowledge and confidence, strengthening skills that empowered her daily life. Balancing work, family, and studies, Pearl demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming obstacles with determination.
After 57 years, Pearl achieved her goal—earning her high school diploma. But her journey didn’t stop there. Passionate about inspiring others, she became the face of RACE, offering motivational words in the new student orientation video. She is also on track to become RACE’s first Student Ambassador and shared her story at the Mt. San Antonio Consortium Conference, inspiring both staff and students.
Pearl’s achievement extended beyond personal success. Her diploma opened new doors—she plans to enroll at Mt. San Antonio College to continue her education. Her determination also influenced her family, motivating her children to pursue their own educational goals.
Pearl Wong embodies the spirit of lifelong learning, perseverance, and transformation. Her story is one of inspiration, resilience, and impact—not only did she change her own life, but she also uplifted those around her. Her journey reflects the true purpose of adult education: empowering individuals, strengthening families, and enriching communities.
For these reasons, Pearl Wong is an outstanding candidate for this Adult Education Achievement Award. She is not just a graduate—she is a role model, a mentor, and a beacon of hope for all adult learners.
