Sulamita Cuevas
Elk Grove Adult and Community Education
Nominated in 2023
Sulamita first came to our school in 2017 homeless, battered, and divorced with two children and with her Dreamer status expired. AT EGACE, we provided her with wrap around services and enrolled her in Advanced ESL. When she matriculated, she landed in our Career Choice and Changes, where she figured out who she was, what she wanted out of life, and how to get it using US systems. For example, she learned in the class that to work legally here as an undocumented immigrant, all she had to do was form an LLC, which she did.
