Martinez Adult Education

Martinez Adult Education has been a vital part of the Martinez community, providing educational services for 100 years. Under the governance of the Martinez Unified School District, Martinez Adult Education (MAE) first offered evening classes in 1919 at the high school to Shell employees. Two years later, Shell employees petitioned the district to offer additional courses. By 1925, the adult school schedule included courses in stenography, typing, auto mechanics, and American citizenship. In 1978 MAE had grown to the point of needing its own campus and was moved to the current location at 600 F Street in Martinez on the site of Montecito Elementary School.

Today MAE offers over 25 career/technical program certificates through the Business Training Center, Technology Education Center, Peace Officer Standards Training, and several Healthcare training programs. In addition to career/technical programs, MAE offers state-approved courses in English as a Second Language, Adult High School Diploma, GED/Independent Study, and Health and Safety. MAE also serves as the Local Area Education (LEA) for several apprenticeship programs.
